We always feel a little apprehensive before Sunday's Jaleo at the Sant Cristofol fiesta. Partly due to the unpredictability of the stallions riding through the crowds in the packed village streets and square, but also partly because we know that we can't help but be drawn into the heart of the party and will end the day covered in sawdust and pomada.
As soon as the band strike up for the infamous samba after the Jaleo has finished, the party atmosphere is all consuming. Every face is turned to the conductor, awaiting his direction and following his rhythmic lead.
We have never been to a better party (and trust us, we have partied).
For Lisa and David, Palmaira's co-founders, the Sant Cristofol fiesta is special for many reasons. This is David's hometown and a time for him to be with his friends and family. this is also the place where he met London born Lisa and they fell in love as teenagers. Now, it is the manufacturing home of Palmaira Sandals, which are made by David's neighbours and school friends. Sant Cristofol is a time for us to celebrate and enjoy belonging to a very special village surrounded by our friends, family and colleagues, and enjoying being free and wild Menorcan style!!
